So yesterday, I was able to spend the day with my wife. We had a nice time, though I did have lots of work to do. We did manage to get to the grocery store, and I am happy to report, I skipped pretty much all of the junk. I bought more fruit than I probably should have, but if that’s my replacement for chocolate and other sweets, then hopefully no one will bug me about it too much.
My wife had a pretty hard time with the grocery shopping as we skipped so many things that we would both love to have. They had just finished making some fresh pastries, and the whole bread and half of the vegetable areas smelled of their wonderful sweetness. As we passed through each isle, there were things we both wanted to have, but knew of the negative consequences.
I swear that they design those stores in such a way that it is difficult to skip the chips, ice cream, fruit snacks and other junk food.
It was an interesting experience, especially when you look at the store from the eyes of someone trying to avoid processed sugars, high fat products, and things loaded with salt. Remove all those things from the grocery store, and I am sure it would only be a few hundred square feet, rather than the sprawling monsters we shop at today.

I like how the term “health food” store became so popular amongst our generation. Wild oats, a local “health food” store is really small.. has all the same types of food: dairy, snacks, juice, produce, meat, poultry, seafood and even a deli. It is 100x nicer than the chain groceries and slightly more expensive.. but I feel its worth it.
