How Will I Lose the Weight?

ScaleSo the big question on everyone’s mind will probably be “how will you lose the weight?”

Well, with a goal of two pounds a week, it shouldn’t be too hard to lose “most” of the weight I would like to lose. Two pounds of weight is equivalent to 6,000 calories. So if I cut my calorie consumption by 300 or 400 a day, without sacrificing healthy food choices, I will only have to burn another 4,000 calories through exercise every week.

How can I cut so many calories from my daily eating? Well, to be honest, it will require me eating more small meals, and eating the right stuff. No more pizza, poutine, tacos, onion rings, and my worst issue, soft drinks. If you are curious what 400 calories looks like. There is a great page on Wise Geek, displaying what 200 calories looks like from various food choices. Removing two of those a day from your diet wouldn’t be too difficult, would it?

If I can find activities for an hour to two hours a day that will help me burn upwards of 600 calories a day, that would bring me to my goal. That means, if I can run at a pace of around six miles per hour (also known as a ten minute mile), I would have to do half an hour of running every day to burn the needed 600 calories. The biggest change I want to make is through dropping junk food, and increasing my muscle mass. I actually have very little muscle mass currently, so I have lots of room to grow in that aspect, and as I increase my muscle mass, my daily calorie usage will also climb.

While I am very well aware that my goal is very difficult, it is not impossible, and even if I don’t make my exact goal, I hope that this will set me on the right path for my life, and not just for some “experiment”.
