Nature Valley Crunchy Granola Bars

Nature Valley Crunchy Granola Bars CanadaOne of my favourite “health snacks” were the Nature Valley Crunchy Granola bars. They come in a few different flavours including peanut butter, apple crisp and roasted almond. I assumed the roasted almond flavour one would be the healthiest, since it has the most boring flavour of the different kinds I bought, but it actually is higher in fat, sugar, and carbohydrates. While the difference is very small, I found it to be interesting.

This evening as my late night snack, since I won’t be going to bed for at least another four hours, I have an apple crisp flavoured granola bar. It comes in two sticks, and at a total of 42 grams it contains:

  • 190 Calories
  • 6 grams of Fat
  • 170 milligrams of Sodium
  • 30 grams of Carbohydrates
  • 12 grams of Sugar
  • 4 grams of Protein

Suffice to say, these numbers aren’t really all that amazing, though I suppose it is better than scarfing down a grilled cheese sandwich or having a chocolate pudding or two, especially this late in the evening.

I really enjoy the flavour of these Nature Valley bars, but I highly recommend having a water bottle on hand as the oats and whatnot can dry out your mouth, making enjoying the snack a little difficult. I actually think they could have done with a little less processed sugar and still maintained the same pleasant taste.

If I had to give the Nature Valley Crunchy Granola Bars a rating, I would say they are a 4 out of 5.

You should also try the Nature Valley Sweet & Salty Cashew bars. They have comparable nutritional info (30 fewer calories, 20 mg less sodium, 8 fewer carbs). But they are an excellent sweet snack substitute. If you’re craving a candy bar or something sweet, down one of these and you’re craving will be gone. Plus you get crunchy and chewy in one. Don’t keep the box nearby…I did that once and ate 4 in a day haha.
