Weight Loss Update: 258 Pounds

by admin on February 26, 2008

So it looks like I have dropped my first two pounds. I am sure most of it is from all the walking I did while in Vancouver, British Columbia for Northern Voice, but I am happy to see the scale registering a drop. I hope to continue to watch the scale move downwards over the next seven and a half months.

Losing weight is much harder than I thought it would be. I was all excited at the start, but today I am not feeling quite so motivated, but instead very tempted. Weight loss is a slow process, and temptation is everywhere. I don’t yet feel like I have a good support system in place, but I do want to make sure that I thank Tom and Ryan for their continued signs of support.

I haven’t been working too hard on the physical aspect, feeling more like it will just “happen”. I really have to get out of that mindset and set aside some serious time to do some cardio or weight lifting. I am hoping to pick up some weights soon so that I can do some of the things I learned when I was working out with a personal trainer half a year ago now.

The eating aspect has, until today, been easier. I try to make healthier choices and I hope they will show big dividends. I am drinking more water, eating smaller meals with more vegetables throughout the day, and trying to watch my intake of calories, fat, sugars, and sodium.

The cravings today have been hard to get rid of and are even worse because it is easier to give into temptation than getting a suitable replacement. Having a bowl of strawberries and grapes would probably get rid of the sweet food craving I am having right now, but the convenience store with chocolate bars is one fifth of the distance away, and with the wife having the car, it seems like the better, easier option.

Right now I am chewing a piece of gum frantically, and trying to stay focused and positive. The wife has said she’s on board with all of this, but hasn’t really proved it yet, as she has been busy focusing her time and attention on work, and returning to school to do some classes. Hopefully, I can turn her around and get her focused on this too, as it is even more difficult to lose weight when the other person isn’t following the same regime.

Here’s hoping for another two pounds over this week.

Of course it is hard to loose weight, otherwise everyone would be out there doing it. ;-)
Your scale will inevitably creep upwards a few times. That is normal, don’t freak out, but pay close attention to what you are eating, and stay on target… stay on target…

The walk to the grocery store, while farther away, is a reward in itself - you can have those strawberries *and* get some exercise. The exposure to sunlight probably won’t hurt you either. ;-)
So, grab your ipod, load on a few tunes or podcasts and get walking!
